IRE vs SA 1st ODI: Possible Playing 11 of Ireland

IRE Playing 11: Ireland will be hosting South Africa in the first ODI of the series here at Dublin. The series is an important one for Ireland as they get to play some matches against a top ranked international side. They last played an ODI series against Netherlands in which they suffered a shocking defeat to the hosts. On their day, the Irish can spring a surprise on any side in the world. Both teams have played 5 ODIs before in which SA leads 5-0. With World Cup Super League points up for grabs, these will be Ireland’s first such fixtures on home soil.

  • Allrounder Curtis Campher returns for the ODI series after undergoing ankle surgery in May this year.
  • William Porterfield sustained a finger injury on match eve but was later deemed fit to play. Jeremy Lawlor has been added to the squad as cover.

Ireland have an experienced top 3 and they will rely upon them to get most of the runs. Stirling has been in good form recently and he will be a crucial player at the top. Dockrell’s improved batting has given the batting order solidity and options. In seamer-friendly conditions, much will depend upon how McCarthy and Young start with the new ball. The focus will also be on left-armer Josh Little who bowled with good pace and picked up crucial wickets against Netherlands.
