Zubayr Hamza born in Cape Town started playing out of Primrose Cricket Club, but soon noticed by the provincial selectors. He grew up idolizing Jacques Kallis. Initially, Hamza began to play for SA Schools before making his debut in the Western Province U-19 set-up and then onto the provincial scene.

He is the fourth-youngest batsman in South Africa to score a double hundred in a first-class game. Other notable players who achieved this before turning 20 included names are Graeme Pollock, Dean Elgar, Ken Viljoen, and others.

Early Career

He played in the Western Province, cricket team squad for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup.

In the year 2016-17 Sunfoil Series match between Cape Cobras and Knights, he was dismissed after he handled the ball.

In September 2018, he was the leading run-scorer for South Western Districts in the tournament with the score of 102 runs in just four matches.
