Delhi Daredevils skipper, Gautam Gambhir has decided to step down from his post. Shreyas Iyer would take over from Gambhir for the remainder of the IPL 2018.

Shreyas Iyer would be taking over from Gambhir for the remaining of the Indian Premier League 2018.

Gambhir was bought by the Delhi Daredevils in the players auction in January, and was made the captain hoping that he would be able to turn the fortunes of the team and help them lift the maiden title.

But the Daredevils are languishing at the bottom with just one win from their six wins.

Gambhir’s form hasn’t been well in the season where he could only score in double digits with a half-century in the first game.

“I take full responsibility for the position we are in. And concerned with our run in the tournament, I have decided to step down as captain. Iyer will be taking over now. I still feel that we have the team to turn things around this season,” Gambhir said while addressing the press in Delhi on Wednesday.

“It’s my decision. I initiated the meeting and I thought that I haven’t contributed enough. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. I think this is the right time,” he said.

“I was thinking all the time, I couldn’t handle the pressure. I was not good enough and that is all,” he added.

“We’re still in the competition. It was my decision, I had no pressure from the franchise, they’ve been absolutely suppportive about it, sometimes when your instinct says it’s the right time you just listen to it and take the call” added Gambhir.
