I want to score runs and take Indian cricket forward- Virat Kohli

India and England have played against each other 17 times in the United Kingdom but things have been difficult for the visitors so far as they have managed only three Test series’ win since 1932.

But this time things might go in favour of India, believes Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is optimistic about the preparation and the mindset of the team.

Talking about the preparation and the mindset of the Indian cricket team, Kohli said, “Our team is in the right frame of mind and we are very happy to play long series because we understand that a long series will give us an opportunity to prove ourselves.”

“Playing a long series means that we will have more opportunities to get our equations right,” he added.

Talking about the bowling attack, the Indian skipper said that Indian bowling attack has matured over the years as they have developed a better understanding about the pitches and the playing conditions.

Since taking over the captaincy from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli has taken India to the first position in the ICC World Test Rankings. However, England has remained a low-point of Kohli’s career as when India toured England in 2014, he could only score 134 runs at an average of 13.40.

“I just want to go out there and score runs for the team to take Indian cricket forward, it is my only motive,” he said.

“I don’t want to prove anything to anyone, I simply want to perform for the team,” he added.

On the other hand, England skipper Joe Root believes that his team is well prepared to take on the No.1 side and they have their weapons ready for dealing with Virat Kohli.

“With the number of right-handers in the Indian team, we believe that Rashid gives us a very attacking option,” said Joe Root.
