After failing to make any impact in the first Test against India, the stand-in captain of Windies, Kraigg Brathwaite has offered some advise to his fellow batsmen.

The Windies team failed to bat for 100 overs in their two innings and lost the Test by an innings and 272 runs, their second biggest defeat in Tests.

Trusting our defence is the key: Brathwaite

The opening batsmen spoke about his team’s batting strategy in the press conference after the Test. He said that, going forward what they need to do is along with the attacking shots, trust in defence. Brathwaite believes that’s the key.

He stated that obviously when the field goes back, it’s a matter of still staying positive in defence and putting away the bad balls, stroking the ball along the ground for singles. The West Indies captain admitted that his team didn’t trust their defence as much as they should have.

Brathwaite wants balance of defence and attack

After getting out cheaply in the first innings, the Windies batsmen came out in the second innings with an intention of attacking the spinners.

However their plan failed miserably and except for Kieran Powell (83 runs) nobody was able to score more than 80 runs.

Brathwaite observed that it is just about trusting your plans. He felt that on the third day they were a lot more positive but they still didn’t get the big partnerships.

So he thinks that going forward, a balance of defence and attack, and after that building partnerships, will be good.

Holder still not confirmed for second Test

Jason Holder the captain of Windies team missed the first Test due to an injury. When asked about his return to the team for the second Test, Brathwaite said that he isn’t 100% sure about Holder’s condition.

The second Test between India and West Indies begins on 12th September at Hyderabad.
