Pandya will be the key when India takes on Pakistan
Former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson, who has recently retired from all forms of the game has said that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be the key for India in India’s battle against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2018.
Asia Cup 2018 is slated to begin from September 15 and India will face their arch-rivals on Pakistan on September 19.
“I think seamers like Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya will work in India’s favour. UAE’s pitch conditions will favour Pandya and Umesh Yadav when they take on Pakistan in Asia Cup,” Johnson said.
This year the Asia Cup will be held in the limited-overs format all set to kickstart in UAE and the Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the Asia Cup on September 1.
India is scheduled to play against a qualifier on September 18 and they will lock horns with Pakistan the following day.
“Pandya is doing good in the United Kingdom and he is also utilising the conditions well. Pandya’s ability to extract pace from pitches and smartly bowling at the right length when required will help knock out the Pakistani batting line-up,” he said.
Umesh Yadav will be important too
“U also excited to watch Umesh Yadav bowl in the Asia Cup. He possesses a unique ability to choke the batsmen at crucial points and he can also knock the opponents with his variations.”
“I think Yadav, Bumrah and Pandya can shift the momentum in India’s favour,” he added.
Pandya produced a clinical all-round performance in India’s last match at Trent Bridge as he took a five-wicket haul and scored a blistering half-century in the second innings. Pandya garnered a lot of praise from cricket legends.
However, Mitchell Johnson backed Pakistan as they have played in UAE conditions in PSL (Pakistan Super League).
“I think Pakistan will have an upper hand over India and they will enjoy playing in UAE because of having more experience. They know the conditions better,” he concluded.
