RCB vs DC IPL 2019 preview: Will an erratic Delhi keep RCB winless?

Its tough to be a Delhi fan. There are days when the team produces sensational performances and then there are days when the team surrenders in the most insane fashion.

But it is tougher to be a RCB fan. It seemed that the team needs the Kohli-ABD magic to win a game but last night, the franchise earned another defeat despite Kohli and ABD hammering fifties. Five matches in IPL 2019 and RCB is still winless. How long is the wait going to be?

On April 07, both teams have the chance to repair the damage inculcated in the past and showcase a strong performance. The bigger question however is, can RCB’s pace bowling unit find its mojo?

Venue:

The Bengaluru wicket is back in its traditional avatar. It has become flat and has made run-scoring easy. The other night 200 was chased and in the match between RCB and DC a similar narrative can be expected but do not rule out the spinners.

Form guide:

The resurgence of Kohli and ABD is a relieving for Bangalore but their biggest headache is the pace artillery. Tim Southee was abysmal in the last game while Yadav and Mohammad Siraj are out of form. Saini showed promise but he still looks a work in progress.

However Chahal and Negi are looking good and RCB will hope that they continue their form.

Consistency is missing in Delhi’s bating line-up. The top-order hasn’t come up as one unit so far while their bowlers need to step up as well.

Key numbers:

  • In head to head battles, RCB is the clear winner. Bangalore has won 15 matches while Delhi has won only six.

  • The record is tilted heavily in favour of RCB especially in the recent times. RCB has won the last five encounters while Delhi’s last win against Bangalore came in 2016. Infact Delhi has won only once in the last fifteen matches against RCB.

Players in focus:

  • Virat Kohli loves batting against Delhi. The RCB skipper has smashed 785 runs against Delhi in 19 innings in the Indian Premier League. He averages a stunning 71.36 and has a strike rate of 141.70. And he is in good touch as he scored 84 off 49 balls in the last game.

  • After benching for four games, Pawan Negi was finally given a chance in the game against KKR and he made an instant impact by claiming two wickets. He can be effective against Delhi as well as he has claimed five wickets against them in two matches and has an economy of just 4.33.
