ISL 2018

Indian national defender and Kerala Blasters new signing Anas Edathodika is going to miss the first three matches of the South Indian club in the upcoming ISL 2018 season due to his misconduct in the Super Cup final.

What happened that day?

Anas was then a squad member of Jamshedpur FC and playing against FC Goa in the final match of the Super Cup. The match referee on-field punished him and his two teammates along with two players from the opposition. They were involved in a half-time scuffle during the final match in April. All the players got Red cards in that particular match and were out of the contest. Anas was among them. Jamshedpur FC lost the game by 0-5.

The ban was supposed to stay for three matches, and AIFF’s disciplinary committee also backed the decision made by the match referee. However, Anas is on a new journey with Kerala Blasters, and his three-match ban will continue against ATK, Mumbai City and Delhi Dynamos.

Anas is a widely regarded player in Kerala, and he will get a chance to play for the first time in the home squad after spending 11 years of his professional career outside the boundary line. He is an Indian national player rubbed shoulders with Sandesh Jhingan. He is called to rebuild the defensive outfit of the team. He will partner Sandesh again in the forthcoming season.

It will be a homecoming celebration for Anas as this is the first time in his professional career when he will play for his home. He started his career with Mumbai City, and now he’ll be representing Kerala Blasters.

Who will be the replacement?

Anas’ absence from the three fixtures will compel the head coach David James to go with Cyril Kali or Nemanja-Lakic-Persic at the back.
