We might have seen many examples of established cricketers trying their hands at acting in Bollywood films, but we have an example now that prospered another way around. Digvijay Deshmukh, a budding cricketer, was famous for his role in the film ‘Kai Po Che’ till now but not is the case anymore.
Digvijay Deshmukh was born on 12th April 1998 in Ambajol, Beed District of Maharashtra. His father was a school teacher and his mother was a housewife. Right from the childhood days, his ambitions were pretty clear. He always wanted to represent India at the highest level.
Digvijay Deshmukh came through the ranks after he represented Maharashtra in the CK Nayudu Trophy. He can bowl at 133-134 kmph consistently and can swing the ball both ways. That’s a very impressive skill to have at such a young age. He gives a lot of credit for this to his state coach Surendra Bhave.
Digvijay Deshmukh made his T20 debut in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy in the season of 2019-20 for Maharashtra. He took 9 wickets from 7 matches and looked impressive. Mumbai Indians called him up for the IPL trials and picked him in the auction at the price of 20 lakh for IPL 2020. Straight after that, Digvijay made his Ranji debut against Jammu and Kashmir and took 6 wickets along with scoring 83 valuable runs in Maharashtra second innings.

Apparently, Digvijay Deshmukh was playing in a U-14 school tournament in Mumbai when one of the assistant directors of the film spotted him. He was called for the audition and was offered the role. Digvijay accepted the role only because the character of Ali was all about playing cricket. Digvijay Deshmukh would hope that just like ‘Ali’, he can go all the way and represent India on the highest stage.
Digvijay Deshmukh shared a special bonding with his on-screen co-stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Rajkumar Rao. He promised Sushant that he would meet him in Mumbai only after becoming a professional cricketer. But unfortunately, Sushant passed away just recently and Digvijay couldn’t complete his promise.

“He was passionate about cricket. On the last day of the shoot, I had promised him I’d not meet him till I became a decent level cricketer. This year, when I got selected to play for Mumbai Indians, I decided to meet him but then the lockdown happened and now he is no more. I wish the lockdown wouldn’t have been there, at least then I would have been able to fulfil the promise I made to him. I failed to do so. I wanted to keep the promise. I regret it”
