Three reasons why Bangladesh will defeat Pakistan in Asia Cup
Pakistan and Bangladesh will face each other in a virtual semi-final on September 25 in Asia Cup. In this ‘the winner takes all’ match, Pakistan are the favourites but it won’t be a surprise if Bangladesh emerge as the winners.
Bangladesh do have the ability to outplay the opposition which was reflected in their match against Sri Lanka but the question is whether they can up the ante when it matters the most.
Pakistan looks a stronger team between the two but these three reasons can result in a defeat for them.
1. Batting too much reliant on Shoaib Malik-
It is an open secret that at the moment, Paksitan’s batting is heavily dependent on their experienced campaigner Shoaib Malik.
The openers have been erratic, the middle-order has failed to deliver while the likes of Babar Azam haven’t played to their potential.
In this scenario, if Bangladesh sends back Malik early then it could bring the remaining batting order crashing down for Pakistan.
2. Slippery fielding-
No team has dropped more catches then Pakistan in this tournament but the scarier part is there are no signs of improvement.
Pakistan bowlers have the edge over Bangladesh batsmen but they do need the support from their fielders. In a crucial match like this, Pakistan might get undone because of their fielders failing to rise to the occasion.
3. The quality of spinners-
Pakistan’s spin department is reliant on Shadab Khan who has claimed just three wickets in three games so far and his every wicket has come at a cost 30.33 runs.
On the other hand, Bangladesh’s spin mastero Shakib-Ul-Hasan has leaked only 4.56 runs per over and has seven wickets in four games.
Shakib not only picks wickets at crucial times but he also controls the game in the middle overs. However Shadab has failed to inflict much damage with his leg-spin.
The difference in the quality of spin bowling could will decide the fate of the match.
